Fight For Air Climb includes three buildings in 2012

 

Karissa Schweizer of Urbandale, Hannah Thomas of West Des Moines and Grace Gibbons of Perry competed against 600 of the midwest’s best runners in the Footlocker Midwest Regional Cross Country Meet on Saturday, Nov. 26 at The University of Wisconsin Parkside Campus in Kenosha, Wis. Schweizer finished the 5K event in 18:22 (22nd), Gibbons in 18:39 (37th) and Thomas in 19:09 (69th).

This new year, give yourself a tangible fitness and weight loss goal: climb up 66 flights of stairs in the American Lung Association’s Fight For Air Climb on Sunday, March 4 . The three-building climb includes: EMC Insurance Companies, Hub Tower and the Des Moines Marriott Downtown in downtown Des Moines.

“Millions of people will resolve to lose weight, quit smoking and get in shape this New Year,” says Micki Sandquist, Executive Director of the American Lung Association in Iowa. “Participating in the Fight for Air Climb is a strong motivator to get to the gym and a fun way to diversify your workout.”

Steve Cannon announces 1,000 mile run around Lake Michigan

 

Resolute to do his part in the fight against cancer, Urbandale resident Steve Cannon is planning a 40 marathon in 40 day run around Lake Michigan beginning this May. Cannon, who will be raising funds for cancer research with pledges and donations, will start on May 20, 2012, from the Navy Pier in Chicago, running clock-wise around the lake. If successful, Cannon’s run will be the first documented circumnavigation around Lake Michigan. Other runners are invited to join for segments of the run.
