Ride EZ Sunscreen

Summer is the time to get out and play. In Iowa that means dealing with sun, heat and humidity. While we’ve begun to understand the risks of long-term sun on our skin, as athletes, our need is even greater. Keeping the sun off us keeps us cooler. Simple in concept, hard in reality.
There are many products available to keep the sun from being absorbed into your skin. I must admit, I don’t like the greasy feeling they leave. My hands slip on the handlebars, and the residue stings my eyes when I inadvertently wipe them during a run. I find it easy to neglect to apply appropriate amounts of sunscreen, just because I don’t like it.
Chris Brown, owner of Ride EZ Chamois Cream, heard the same complaints — greasy, stinging and washes off when we sweat and get wet. Employing the expertise of chemists and scientists, he set out to address these problems, and discovered a cream he now calls Ride EZ Sunscreen.
Given a tube to test, I passed it to Dee for her to use and test on the kids. We’ve used it for the past month, and, while cloudy days have outnumbered sunny days, we had ample opportunity to see its benefits.
Right out of the tube, Ride EZ feels differently. Soft and buttery, not thick and greasy, it’s easy to apply to exposed skin, and our hands don’t feel like we just re-greased the differential of a ’57 Chevy. With a new product, I was a bit nervous to apply it to my face, but this is a test. No unpleasant scent or eye-stinging experiences
Dee and I have used it on bike rides, runs, a couple of triathlons and at the pool. We’ll usually have an early season burn on at least one of us, but the sunscreen held strong. No blisters, no peeling, no tender backs. While not a scientific test, our real world experience indicated that this stuff works at keeping the sun’s harmful effects at bay.
It seemed to stay on while sweating, swimming and staying active. It was designed to help athletes protect themselves from the sun, keeping them cool without the drawbacks of other greasy sunscreens. After using it for a month, the Ride EZ Sunscreen seems to do its job. Just in time for RAGBRAI, it is available wherever Ride EZ Chamois Cream is sold.
